This project encompassed a full-scale decommissioning and demolition program across several sites in Central Alberta. Our team executed the safe dismantling and removal of above-ground infrastructure, including vessels, buildings, stacks, and extensive piping systems. We also managed the deconstruction of underground networks, such as buried piping and foundations, ensuring complete asset retirement. Additional activities included structural demolition, equipment removal, transportation and disposal of materials, and scrap metal recovery for recycling, which diverted thousands of tonnes from landfill. Throughout the process, we implemented rigorous safety protocols, strategic sequencing, and environmental stewardship to deliver a clean, future-ready site.
Our Approach
This project required a phased strategy to manage demolition across multiple sites while maintaining safety and efficiency. We began with above-ground removals, followed by underground piping and foundations, using specialized equipment and strategic sequencing. Seasonal weather changes during winter added complexity, requiring adaptive scheduling and resource adjustments to keep progress on track. Through proactive planning and responsive problem-solving, we delivered a comprehensive decommissioning solution while upholding strict safety and environmental standards.
The Results
Over nine months of execution, the project was completed within budget, and to client expectations. Despite seasonal challenges, our team maintained momentum and delivered a full decommissioning of above-ground and underground infrastructure. Notably, the project achieved zero safety incidents, while recycling efforts diverted over 4,800 tonnes of scrap metal from landfill, generating significant value recovery. This outcome reflects our commitment to precision, sustainability, and uncompromising safety standards.
