SUBLATUS was engaged by the Orphan Well Association to manage the full-scale demolition and decommissioning of the Mazeppa Gas Plant near Okotoks, Alberta. This complex project included hazardous material abatement, infrastructure removal, catalyst handling, and engineered demolition of towering flare and incinerator stacks, all executed with precision and environmental care.

The Challenge
The Mazeppa Gas Plant demolition required careful handling of hazardous materials, including asbestos, solid sulphur, and sulphur-filled piping. Additionally, the project culminated with the engineered removal of two tall stacks, each presenting unique safety and structural challenges.

Our Approach
We approached each phase with detailed planning, specialized abatement procedures, and controlled demolition methods. Thanks to proactive planning and efficient execution, raindown procedures, catalyst removal, and hazardous material management were completed ahead of schedule. Engineered fall plans were also developed and precisely executed for the flare and incinerator stacks.

The Results
The project was completed successfully ahead of schedule and without incident. All high-risk materials were managed safely and in compliance with applicable regulations, and the stack demolitions proceeded exactly as planned, ensuring a safe and controlled closure of the site.
